Earlier reports suggested the Mini sport/utility was to be built on a rear-drive architecture shared with the BMW X1, which was to be built on the 1 Series platform, itself derived from the 3 Series platform. But that's not the case. The concept has the dash-to-axle relationship of a transverse-engine, front-drive platform. Just like the regular Mini.
